What TMT is wearing: Icebreaker GT
Icebreaker, the sweet as- company from New Zealand, is rolling out their spring 2010 line soon, and with it will come the really cool, revamped GT line. The ultra running squad of Team Mega Tough got to preview the line-up, including the Dash crew (150), Chase zip (200), and Rapid Leggings (260). We also got to try out their new running-specific sock, and their lightweight and mega-cute GT200 hat.
What more motivation than new wool gear to get you out the door and ready for a 50miler? Our ultra squad, veterans and newbies alike, give two thumbs up to the new renditions of the GT line. Here’s what some of our teammies are saying about the stuff right off the bat.
Lisa M: 15 miles of hilly paved and gravel roads. Temps in the low 30′s. Wore the crew under the long sleeve and had to unzip and push the sleeves up early in the run. Never needed the windbreaker (ended up stuffing that in the Nathan). Have worn the socks on shorter runs so far and am very impressed with how warm they are considering they are not very thick. The Icebreaker gear is incredibly warm for their weight – always knew wool was where it’s at. I have used it for at least 3 or more very sweaty runs between washings with no smell yet – incredible!! Plus, its stylin’ enough to wear to work (my attempt to save time changing as I headed out the door for an after work run).
Megan K: The Dash tee reminds me a lot of my old-school Craft top that is long in the torso. I got the Craft top in 2004, and I still hold on to it, because I couldn’t for the life of me find a top like it. The one thing that I don’t like about the Craft top is that it’s a warm poly blend, and by warm I mean I can wear it under a long sleeve on a 15F day and be perfectly comfortable; which isn’t necessarily the best thing for a tee I wanna wear year round. The designers of the Dash tee must have been reading my mind, because this shirt is exactly what I’ve been looking for.
The Dash and Chase fit well. Arm length? perfect. Torso length? I like it. And an extra bonus, I didn’t notice the shirt. Which meant that there wasn’t any rubbing or chafing.
Margot: I decided to give the t-shirt the best stink-test I could come up with – multiple days with 45 minutes+ of moderate cardio at the gym. I prefer to wear my morning workout clothes a few times before washing them (saves water and wear-and-tear on the clothes), but sometimes they get kinda smelly and I feel bad for the person on the machine next to me. The Icebreakers T performed very well. No noticeable odor after 2 workouts and I was (literally) dripping with sweat after both. I also like the length and cut. The shirt is long enough not to expose my stomach while doing pull-ups and the fit is slim enough that the shirt stays put during ab work, but not so slim that I feel self-conscious. And, for those that still think wool MUST be itchy, it is NOT itchy. I am definitely falling in love with all the wool performance products on the market these days.
More to come…

Well, technically, that picture is me having a good time on the icy roads of Cohasset but that’s okay
I LOVE my Icebreaker gear. The pants are my favorite. I have my own blog entry about ready to go but I’ll send in a blurb about my love for the pants, too.
